Mrs. Yvonne Gervais

from St. Gregory Catholic School

Hi Orlena,
Michelle deBoef here and I'm sorry to be bothering you, but I've emailed the General Enquiries twice, and have not heard back. I'm sure it is a glitch with the computer, but my soon to be 9 year old son will not leave me alone. Jackson desperately wants his grade 3 teacher to win the teacher of the week contest and is wondering if it is a draw or if all entries are read and one chosen. We've entered the contest twice and he is curious about how it works.
If you have any pull he wants you to know why he thinks his teacher "ROCKS!" Mrs. Yvonne Gervais teaches grade 3/4 at St. Gregory Catholic School in Picton. Jackson enjoys her so much that on snow days he begs me to drive him in so that he can still have his time with her. Might I remind you that this is a 9 year old boy begging to go to school!! Very rare from what I am told.
Yvonne is a mother of 2 little girls and the wife of a military man. What I admired the most was her dedication to her class the entire time her husband was gone serving in Haiti. She became a temporary single mother, with worries and concerns about her husband, but never lost track of her students. As a volunteer in her class I've seen first hand this dedication.
Her students don't simply respect her as their teacher, but they truly like her as a person, and as my son considers her, a friend. I have found that when disciplining him at home, his biggest fear is disappointing his teacher. He strives to be a better person because of her, and that is what makes her remarkable.
Too many people take education for granted and we need to value not only the education, but those that are capable of making an impact while they teach it. Anyone can dictate from a book, but it takes love and patience to make a child connect with that information. Yvonne Gervais does that.
Jackson has given her thank you notes and cards, but he thinks winning this contest is what she needs to know he thinks so highly of her. As a mother, I couldn't be more thankful for not only his teacher, but the teachers of all three of my children. I think you need a SCHOOL of the Week contest because as remarkable as Yvonne is, she is just one staff member of an all around fantastic school. From the pricipal to the custodians, our entire school is made up of remarkable people that I am thankful for everyday. As my son says..."St. Gregory's ROCKS!"
Orlena, any help would be great. Even if you just pass this on to someone else please let me know so I can appease Jackson with something. His determination, although admirable, is driving me crazy! Thank you so much for your time on this matter.
On another note, I checked you out after we first chatted, and you are everywhere. I cannot believe how busy you must be. I loved your chat with the Wine Ladies on youtube. Your magazine is really great, too. And, to boot, you look fantastic! As a mother of three I am finally making time to get strong and fit again and it feels great. If I could just have your hair!
Thanks again,
Michelle deBoef
