But the good news is that drivers might just be taking speed limits, and drinking and driving, more seriously. Members of Prince Edward County Council’s Committee of the Whole asked the chair of the Police Board, Robert Quaiff, why fine revenue was down 40 thousand dollars from last year, to 346 thousand dollars.  Quaiff said constant media warnings, and traffic campaigns by police, must be improving driver’s behaviour.

No Further Cuts to Prince Edward Library Budget

Posted on Friday, March 12th, 2010

Cutting back budgets can be tough, and members of Prince Edward County Council didn’t have the heart to further slice the budget of its public library system.  The library’s budget came in at 7.3 percent higher then last year’s, mainly due to mandated wage increases beyond the library board’s control.  Since other Prince Edward County departments were asked to limit their increases to 4 percent, staff recommended a further 24 thousand dollars be cut from the library.  Library staff said cutting 24 thousand dollars would mean cutting back service and the hours of operation, and the Committee of the Whole decided to leave the budget with a 7 percent increase.
