Participaction - Get our kids in shape!
Research shows that “among children and adolescents age two to seventeen, 26% are overweight and another 8% are obese.” The New England Journal of Medicine reported that “our children’s lifespan could be 2-5 years less than our own.” Furthermore, the economic burden of physical inactivity is estimated at $5.3 billion and the burden to the healthcare system is estimated at $2.1 billion. Canada is facing an inactivity and obesity crisis whose impact on the cost of future chronic disease management is almost unimaginable.
A potential solution is regular physical activity, which is associated with as much as a 30% reduction in all causes of mortality rates. With its partners, ParticipACTION wants to be part of the solution.
Participation in sport declined from 45% in 1992 to 28% in 2005 in Canada.

On Wednesday, January 13th at 830am, several women of Quinte Broadcasting (MIX97, CJBQ, ROCK107) will be downtown Belleville in their dresses to get the community pumped about the event that is leading up on JANUARY 17, 2010 - THE RUNNING OF THE BRIDES! Who knows what will happen on that day, but things could be VERY interesting!
“My daughter got married last summer, and participated in the
Running of the Brides at the Ramada last year. She actually volunteered to help the
Cancer Society that day, and bought her dress there as well (for a very small fee).
She lost her Dad to cancer in 2001, so just thought she would give “something back”.
When she wore her dress, she just felt that she had a little part of her Dad with
her that day.Its a fantastic program, sure wish them luck again this year, and love the fact that
the Mix is so involved.”

Whole Food vs. Synthetic Nutrients
Most vitamins found today in pharmacies and health food stores are not whole food supplements. They are generally synthetic forms of the vitamins and minerals that are extracted using various chemicals and often lack the important cofactors and accessory nutrients required for the proper absorption and digestion of the vitamins and minerals. VitaTree™ Whole food supplements include all components, as they are found in nature. The body recognizes and uses the whole food supplement and all its phytonutrients as designed by nature.
A good example is beta-carotene. Almost all of the beta-carotene available to buy in supplement form is an isolated synthetic compound made from acetylene gas.
Beta-carotene is part of a family of anti-oxidants called carotenoids. It is never found alone in nature. For example, carrots and tomatoes have alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, cantozantheen, gamma-carotene, omega-carotene, etc. And although beta-carotene is a great antioxidant, cantozantheen is already known to be even more effective as an antioxidant. Therefore by isolating beta-carotene from its entire family of carotenoids the even more beneficial antioxidant has been eradicated.
It is very difficult to get all the nutrients we need from food. Our soils have been depleted from over-farming for years. The present amount of pollution we face daily increases our bodies’ needs for VitaTree™ whole food nutrients. This means we would need to consume four to five times the amount of food as usual in order to get all the nutrients required in a day.
When we eat food, the nutrient composition of the food is in the perfect balance for those nutrients to be best absorbed. Synthetic vitamins lose this important quality in their processing. The next best thing to good quality food is a VitaTree™ vitamin made from the foods that are whole and unprocessed. Whole food means that the whole plant is used, not just the isolated nutrient that has been chemically denatured like most vitamins.

Rosalie has worked with celebrities and professional athletes including singer Paula Abdul, boxer Lennox Lewis, actress Suzanne Somers, gymnast Mitch Gaylord and hockey great Bobby Hull.
When Rosalie is not traveling the globe she teaches group fitness, personal trains in her home studio, and runs testimonial studies for products she endorses. Being involved with testing new products is one of Rosalie’s favourite projects. These studies usually involve 8 weeks of working out 5 days a week with groups of 16-20 participants. Rosalie works closely with other fitness professionals such as Candice and Douglas Brooks to develop programs for these products. These programs are often life-changing for its participants. More than once, a non-exerciser in the study has become so motivated that they have gone on and become certified trainers themselves.

The Year in Review 2009- what a year!
Changes, changes and more changes at MIX97. Orlena Cain was welcomed to the Mix97 Morning Crew and now we move into 2010 with a BRAND NEW MORNING SHOW set to give you more of what you want and keep you in the know!
2009 saw the deaths of larger-than-life personalities, among them King of Pop Michael Jackson, ’70s icon Farah Fawcett, Patrick Swayze, Natasha Richardson, David Carradine, Jett Travolta and Ted Kennedy. What a year for tears. We also lost some very brave soldiers in the line of duty and repatriations became all too familiar in our community.
Sudden Fame! Many wish for their 15 minutes of fame, but how do you want to acquire yours? Have 8 babies, be recognized as more than just a shower singer or kiss a girl or boy on tv. What will it be? Carrie Prejean’s response about gay marriage during the Miss USA pageant made her a conservative darling.
ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews life unfolded like a “Law & Order” episode. Without her knowledge, a stalker recorded her through a hotel peephole and uploaded the footage online.
Susan Boyle, who had turned 47 years old just 10 days earlier, walked onto the stage for “Britain’s Most Talented.” She bore the look of the frumpy spinster who had been teased as a child , tended to her mother, and lived with her cat. Her debut album is available for purchase now.
Adam Lambert who was one of the few guys to wear “guyliner” almost as good as Dave Navaro and sang in Broadway shows. Won American Idol’s latest season despite Simon Cowell’s protest and ended up almost getting kicked off tv with his kissy face, crotch grabbing behaviour - naughty, but only becasue he did it with a guy - so politically slanted.
Tended by 46 workers, Nadya Suleman’s babies beat the odds to become the second set of octuplets ever born alive in the U.S. Suleman has a child and adolescent development degree, but she was unemployed, living with her parents, and already tending to six other kids. There comes a point when you say - Eight in Enough.
His name may be Falcon, but the six-year-old got dubbed “Balloon Boy” after his parents pulled a fast one. Amateur storm-chasers Richard and Mayumi Heene let fly a helium balloon shaped like a silver saucer, then called 911 claiming that their youngest son might have snuck onboard. We know how this story played itself out.
The marriage between America’s fertility sweethearts Jon and Kate Gosselin unraveled in time for their season 5 premiere. The parents of twins and sextuplets had raised their family before TLC cameras, but tales of extramarital carousing, maternal entitlement, and all-around greed didn’t make the script until 2009.
These people have enjoyed some of the light in 2009 - let’s see what happens in 2010!
