A national holiday in Ireland, we here in North America also like to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day whether it be dressing in green, drinking something green, or enjoying a parade of green. The world’s first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in Boston in 1761. The first recorded parade was New York City’s celebration which began on 18 March 1762 when Irish soldiers in the English military marched through the city with their music. The New York parade is the largest, typically drawing two million spectators and 150,000 marchers. The World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade is held in Maryville, Missouri. The parade route gets shorter every year, down now to about 86 feet.
